There is an amiibo scanner that uses infrared instead of nfc to scan to the system. Just putting this out there if anyone is going to find this useful. Amazon.com

It seems not too complicated. But it would helpful to have this NFC to IR adapter, to analyze it in detail.

This topic seems to be more interesting, than I thought at the first sight.
The Amiibo converter seems to use IRDA protocol and a Remote is using SIR. In fact SIR can work over IRDA.
Simplified: SIR sends from a transmitter to a receiver, IRDA does the whole communication, even Bidirectional.
