Gas station editing in France

Hey there,

I’ve recently gotten permission from a gas station nearby me to mess with the gas signs. However, when I tried to change them it did not work. Anyone know a way to change gas station prices in France? I’m only using it for testing purposes only.

Imagine you had two gas stations side by side and they both used a remote to change prices. Every time one changed the price it would change the price across the street. That would be a problem. There is no single file for every gas station in a country. Each must be unique for security. Since you have permission the best way to go is to record the transmission when the owner changes the price. If you find the code do not ever post the code with the name or location of the gas station though. The owner is being very kind to let you try. Changing the sign does not effect the pumps but it will make the customers very angry so be responsible.

Thanks @MeuhMeuh62 ! Where could we find this on internet ?

Hi @RZN
I don’t know where we can find these frequencies on internet because, in France (or other countries), is a restrict community of Flipper Zero processors. If is available on internet, i think we can find these on a GitHub repo or on small website.
Me too I’m interested to that but too little people get these frequencies.

It might seem a bit bold, but since people working in the gas-station just do their job, if the person behind the counter seems not to old and grumpy, just ask how those are changed and try frequency analyzer? I might sound stupid but you would be surprised on how many people actually would tell/show you if you just ask and mention your interest in the topic. Heck , I you find that it is also vulnerable, and you contact the manager you might even get a free tank of fuel for notifying them.

A few years ago I’ve got hands on a Nokia 6600. With Symbian7. Fast I’ve learned about the limits of the Java bluetooth API. But standard requests could be automated.

These days I was learning a totally different job, but my company had stores 200km across the country. As cheap employee I was send around and spend a lot time in trains. One train company got Nokia 6150 phones in the cockpit, a phone I known well, including AT commands, because of its IRDA port.
So I sat in front and read all the phonebooks and SMS.
After two weeks I informed the company about my discoveries.

Instead of a free ride or even a thank you, they wanted to sue me. Obviously I’ve done something illegal, and because it is forbidden, it is secure. Of course, silly me.
I have not tried to call one of the numbers and say I am some of the names from the phonebook (partly with job in the contact data).
I have not tied to send a fake SMS with changed caller ID. I just listened some days, to validate my discovery where real.

After that, I am very careful with sharing my interests.
Maybe that is the reason why I would not attend to Bug Bounty programs.

That phone brings back memories, it was the first phone where i could convert videos and watch southpark from my sdcard. The time when touchscreens where stil for pda’s only.

yeah also learned that when i notified a bank that their ATM’s have insanely bad configurations and their VNC remote controll was very unsafe to use, they also got very angry where I hoped for a thank you. i got a lot of mails better not disclosing more details or they would come after me.

Also a old friend of mine got instantly sacked working in IT at a bank, he also notified management on some risks, instantly kicked and lost his job. So far for being a good samaritan.

But then again, gas station clerk, mostly sitting out hours bored anyways, especially if it is a night 24/7 gas-station, they are not there cause they like the job but cause they need to work for income. A fun talk and jerking around with some local stuff might even amuse them.

My personal experience with people working at a gas station for some reason is only positive , i except some old grumpy people watching the clock till they can go home again they would just tell you to fck off.

For me it was the Win CE devices.

Yes, that was very common. Even to day some companies will do that. MasterLock was known to send out cease and desist orders even but it was particularly a problem in the IT space. I think it has improved but even today I would be cautious. I have sent warnings but I did so anonymously and carefully. I would not think twice about doing so through a bug bounty program though. The scope tends to be laid out clearly and a third party intermediary handles it.

Indeed, I would convert media for all kinds of devices. I remember buying a specific Nokia device because it actually supported MP3! An amazing thing back then. People did not know what to make of my strange phone( Nokia 3300). It even had some cool games. Most people did not even think it was a phone. Making my own ringtones was amazing too!

I wouldn’t do that. It’s a relatively small problem and not worth the risk. On the other hand asking some questions about how they change the signs seems fine as long as you catch the staff at an off time when they aren’t busy. Often times they are happy to talk when nothing is going on. They just want to pass the time. People are usually helpful by nature particularly if you show an interest in what they are doing.
